I've been running fldigi for years on my Mac with no problems. I have a MacBook Pro, running Mavericks, latest versions of all software both OS side and fldigi side.
Today when I tried to run fldigi it comes up for a second or two then bombs. I get the "fldigi quite unexpectedly" problem report dialog box.
Not that anything in it helps me understand the problem but it does come up with the option to reopen. On reopen fldigi come up but with a dialog box saying the last time I opened it it unexpectedly quit. Asking do I want to reopen windows or not.
No matter which choice I make "don't reopen" or "reopen" the program fails again right back to the quit unexpectedly report.

Any Mac users out there seen this before? Any idea what I do to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, there!

I've been running fldigi for years on my Mac with no problems. I have a
MacBook Pro, running Mavericks, latest versions of all software both OS
side and fldigi side.
Today when I tried to run fldigi it comes up for a second or two then
bombs. I get the "fldigi quite unexpectedly" problem report dialog box.
Probably a corrupted preference file.
Open terminal (search it with Spotlight, just in case you don't know where
it is)
Type:
cd .fldigi
(mind the dot before fldigi)
Then try renaming the preference file with
mv fldigi.prefs fldigi.prefs.old

Then try to open fldigi again.

Let us know if it worked!
Ciao, 73!

Rename the fldigi_def.xml, DO NOT DELETE IT.

Start fldigi in a terminal, you should get the startup wizard.

See if that helps.

Renaming the .xml file and restarting fldigi seems to have worked. I had to rebuild most of my preferences of course but small price to pay to get it working again.

Thanks so much for the help guys.

If you ran time machine, you could go back to when you knew it worked and move the old file on to the corrupt one.

This is a good idea. I didn’t try it because I wanted to rebuild many of the preferences anyway. I found it easiest to just rename the .xml file and start over.

Thanks for the great idea.

I agree with the other comments that something may have hosed your fldigi_def.xml or fldigi.prefs files. This is why I keep a zipped copy of a known good file in my .fldigi folder. Since you may not have saved a zipped copy, I suggest using the OS X Time Machine. Pull or rename your suspect files and restore both from the TM, restart OS X and then start fldigi. Replacing with a known good versions usually solves most issues.

If that does not, the use the OS X Disk Utility to Repair Permissions and one of the utilities that does the linux Maintenance routines.

Good luck..and when you get Humpty-Dumpty back up and running right, Open your .fldigi folder, right-click the two files and select the Compress Archive option. This will create two good zipped files for the next time something happens. It is okay to store the zipped files in your .fldigi folder.

Another set of excellent ideas. Thanks so much for helping out Dick, I’ll implement the .zip file idea especially.
