I'm currently using Mint 13 Mate. I know a few of you have already upgraded
to 17 and have had a little time to play around with it. So, those of you
that have upgraded, would you suggest that I upgrade? Everything is working
fine for me with Mint 13, except I'm getting an error when I try to shut
down (having to do with modem-manager) but that isn't a show stopper. Any
new features to be aware of (either unexpected 'features' or nice-to-haves)?

Thanks,

Geoff, NW7GM

Remove modem manager, unless you need ot for some reason.

If it ain't broke, why fix it.

Look at the wiki, I added the howto for mint17.

I’ve got the cinnamon flavors, 15 on my laptop, and 17 on my wife’s.

Both work well and very similarly. I’m in no hurry to upgrade mine.

Modem manager must be p.o.’ed because of your USB interface?

Hello Mike,

You should be in a hurry! Mint 15 EOL'ed Jan 2014 (probably rather
insecure at this point) and Mint 17 will EOL at the end of July, 2014!

Strange, the linuxmint website says 17 is LTS until 2019. But then
again I may have read it wrong.

Ed, you read it correctly. Long term support extends through 2019.
That's the reason I upgraded for the support. Most everything seems
stable except Skype. I run several Windows program under the latest
Wine, including NetFlix.

The latest and greatest "Feaver" leaves much to be desired.

Upgrades are often causes of severe problems and system failures.

Reinstallation of system is the preferred approach.

While you're at a reinstallation, check out Linux Mint Debian Release -
it's a rolling release, so no more reinstalls of system.
