Hi Peter,

I can't speak to WSJT v9, but WSJT v10, WSPR v4.0 and WSJT-X v1.4 all
work without the re-sampling need ( at least for me) on Ubuntu 14.04. I
do not an .ascoundrc file at all now. I use a USB sound card (Navigator
Interface) for CAT, PTT and USB Audio Codecs.

In Ubuntu releases prior to the advent of 14.04, it was possible to
"prescale" the sampling rate of the SLUSB using the .asoundrc file
dodge (creating a virtuel sound device) - this no longer works (at
least for me) in 14.04!
WSPR is able work with the sample rate supported by the SLUSB, and
reportedly so will WSJT 10 be, when it finally makes it to the Ubuntu
repositories.
The question is: Has anyone come up with a workaround to enable WSJT
9.x and WSJT-X to work natively on 14.04?

Hi Peter,

This is very much a work in progress, but I build WSJT-X v1.4 , WSJT v10
and WSPR 4.0 on Linux (Ubuntu) using the following:

The SDK is built on Ubuntu 14.04.1 It should work on Xubuntu, Lubuntu,
and "may work" on Mint-17, provided Mint is up to date with the Ubuntu
14.04.1 point release. If you have trouble with Mint-17 packaging, it
will most likely be around python3-imaging-tk, python3-pil or Tcl/Tk
package names. That package series is real mess from Debian on down the
chain do to the transition from Python2 to Python3. particularly with
support modules.

There may be some menu questions / answers that are not well phrased, as
things have changed a fare bit since I initially wrote this up. Also
note, that cloning Bill's ( G4WJS )Hamlib3 from Git can take a few
minutes to perform checkout and perform integration ( be patient ) !.
Error handling in general needs work.

See _WSJT v10 Special Bu__ild Instructions_ are at the bottom of this post.

*JTSDK-NIX NOTES*
----------------------------
* The SDK will:
--Install the Required Deps to build all 5 apps
--Build Hamlib3 from G4WJS Git Repo's ( required for WSJT-X v1.4 )
--Build WSJT-X v1.4 (Install Release Target)
--Build WSPR v4.0.
--Build WSJT v10 using special instructions

*Important*:
1) - If you have python-numpy installed, remove it unless needed
elsewhere: sudo apt-get remove python-numpy
2) - To get rid of those annoying bluez-alsa warnings at start-up: sudo
apt-get remove bluez-alsa

*INSTALL / SETUP*
-------------------------
* Open a Terminal, may as well go full screen mode, hit the square in
the top left corner.
* You need subversion to get started: sudo apt-get install subversion

cd ~
svn co https://svn.code.sf.net/p/wsjt/wsjt/branches/jtsdk
cd jtsdk/nix
./setup.sh

--Select Ubuntu form the menu
--Follow the prompts.
--Exit Setup

*BUILD APPLICATIONS*
---------------------------------
./jtsdk-nix.sh

--Select *WSJT-X* or *WSPR* from the menu: ( WSJT, MAP65 and WSPR still
need work in SVN )

*INSTALL LOCATIONS*
--------------------------------
WSJT-X : ~/jtsdk/nix/wsjtx/cmake/install/Release/bin
WSPR: ~/.wspr ( after running the first time )

*TO RUN APPLICATIONS ( WSJT-X, WSPR )*
---------------------------------------------------------------
--To run WSPR, after installation, open terminal, then type: *wspr*

--To Run WSJT-X:
Browse to: ~/jtsdk/nix/wsjtx/cmake/install/Release/bin and click on: *wsjtx*

*TO**UNINSTALL*
-----------------------
WSPR
cd ~/jtsdk/nix/src/wspr
sudo make uninstall

WSJTX
Delete: ~/jtsdk/nix/wsjtx

That should do it. WSJT-X and WSPR should be up and running. Again,
there may be some anomalies here and there with menu wording and such,
but the basics are working.

*WSJT v10 Special Build Instructions*
---------------------------------------------------------
The autotools for WSJT need updating, however, if you installed the
*JTSDK-NIX*, you have all the packages needed to build WSJT v10 manually

*Open Terminal*
mkdir -p ~/jtsdk/nix/src && cd ~/jtsdk/nix/src
svn co https://svn.code.sf.net/p/wsjt/wsjt/trunk wsjt
cd wsjt

*For x86_64 (64bit install)*
./configure --with-portaudio-lib-dir=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu \
--with-portaudio-include-dir=/usr/include \
PYTHON=/usr/bin/python3.4 \
F2PY=/usr/bin/f2py3.4

make

*To Run*:
python3 -O wsjt.py

*For x86 (32bit Install)*
./configure --with-portaudio-lib-dir=/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu \
--with-portaudio-include-dir=/usr/include \
PYTHON=/usr/bin/python3.4 \
F2PY=/usr/bin/f2py3.4

make

*To Run*:
python3 -O wsjt.py

That should do it "Hopefully" :-)

Hello All,

UPDATE:

*FOR WSPR v4.0 and WSJT v10*
- Not unexpected, but a few folks ran into troubles with
python3-imaging-tk missing from the pkg_list_ubuntu file. This has been
fixed in SVN. I've also added a couple other packages that were part of
my dev-env and inadvertently omitted form the package list.

*To Update:*
cd ~/jtsdk/nix
svn update
./setup.sh

-Select Ubuntu
-Follow the prompts

*FOR WSJT-X*
-If you use Qt5 for other projects, particularly QT_VERSION < 5.2, then
ensure you do not have paths to the Qt5 libs in your user environment
when building WSJT-X, as this could cause build failures. A simple check
of qmake will tell the tale:

qmake --version

The SDK does not use Qmake to build at present, its merely a quick check
on Qt5Core and where the libs are coming from. If you used ./setup.sh,
which installs the systems repo package(s), you should get something
along the lines of (for Ubuntu 14.04.1 Flavors):

*For x86 (64bit install)*
QMake version 3.0
Using Qt version 5.2.1 in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu

*For x86 (32bit install)*
QMake version 3.0
Using Qt version 5.2.1 in /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu

If it renders a version less than 5.2.1, you may run into build issues,
as there were several bugs in 5.2.0 that are considered critical. You
could use a toolchain.cmake file or a env-set.sh script to switch
between the two if you use the open-source installer, and install to
/opt for example and needs both versions installed.

1) - If you have python-numpy installed, remove it unless needed
elsewhere: sudo apt-get remove python-numpy
sudo apt-get remove bluez-alsa
*INSTALL / SETUP*
-------------------------
* Open a Terminal, may as well go full screen mode, hit the square in
the top left corner.
* You need subversion to get started: sudo apt-get install subversion
cd ~
svn co https://svn.code.sf.net/p/wsjt/wsjt/branches/jtsdk
cd jtsdk/nix
./setup.sh
--Select Ubuntu form the menu
--Follow the prompts.
--Exit Setup
*BUILD APPLICATIONS*
---------------------------------
./jtsdk-nix.sh
--Select *WSJT-X* or *WSPR* from the menu: ( WSJT, MAP65 and WSPR
still need work in SVN )
*INSTALL LOCATIONS*
--------------------------------
WSJT-X : ~/jtsdk/nix/wsjtx/cmake/install/Release/bin
WSPR: ~/.wspr ( after running the first time )
*TO RUN APPLICATIONS ( WSJT-X, WSPR )*
---------------------------------------------------------------
--To run WSPR, after installation, open terminal, then type: *wspr*
Browse to: ~/jtsdk/nix/wsjtx/cmake/install/Release/bin and click on: *wsjtx*
*TO**UNINSTALL*
-----------------------
WSPR
cd ~/jtsdk/nix/src/wspr
sudo make uninstall
WSJTX
Delete: ~/jtsdk/nix/wsjtx
That should do it. WSJT-X and WSPR should be up and running. Again,
there may be some anomalies here and there with menu wording and such,
but the basics are working.
*WSJT v10 Special Build Instructions*
---------------------------------------------------------
The autotools for WSJT need updating, however, if you installed the
*JTSDK-NIX*, you have all the packages needed to build WSJT v10 manually
*Open Terminal*
mkdir -p ~/jtsdk/nix/src && cd ~/jtsdk/nix/src
svn co https://svn.code.sf.net/p/wsjt/wsjt/trunk wsjt
cd wsjt
*For x86_64 (64bit install)*
./configure --with-portaudio-lib-dir=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu \
--with-portaudio-include-dir=/usr/include \
PYTHON=/usr/bin/python3.4 \
F2PY=/usr/bin/f2py3.4
make
python3 -O wsjt.py
*For x86 (32bit Install)*
./configure --with-portaudio-lib-dir=/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu \
--with-portaudio-include-dir=/usr/include \
PYTHON=/usr/bin/python3.4 \
F2PY=/usr/bin/f2py3.4
make
python3 -O wsjt.py
That should do it "Hopefully" :-)

Hi Peter,
I can't speak to WSJT v9, but WSJT v10, WSPR v4.0 and WSJT-X v1.4
all work without the re-sampling need ( at least for me) on Ubuntu
14.04. I do not an .ascoundrc file at all now. I use a USB sound
card (Navigator Interface) for CAT, PTT and USB Audio Codecs.

That sounds very encouraging Greg, how did you get them? Is there a
"secret repository" somewhere, or did you compile from source? If the
latter is there a cookbook recipe available?

I upgraded from 13 to 14 and wsjtx still works ok.

But had to do some work to get it to work in 13..hope this helps

Sam - thanks for the help!

Only difference for me is that input for Signalink is 13 12 ALSA pulse.
ALSA p148r does not show up on input list.

P148r is on output and is what I am set up.
Need to test xmit though.

Thanks Dan KC2STA

I was having troubles with no RX when trying to us my SignaLink USB with
WSJT

when trying to use USB Audio CODEC: USB Audio (hw:3,0) for Audio In
I would get a popup window that says:

error in Sound in
"Port Audio says requested sound card format not supported"

and another popup window that says:
"Failed to start audio input stream"

John Nogatch the maintainer for the WSJTX package sent me the following
info:

==============================
<quote>
Are you starting wsjtx from a terminal window? Are you observing the
"...SetApproximateSampleRate..." message?

wsjtx tries to open the sound input device with sampleRate=48000. If
the device does not support that rate, then error messages are
produced. For example, if I try to use device hw:1,0 directly, then I
see these messages in the terminal window:

Expression 'SetApproximateSampleRate( pcm, hwParams, sr )' failed in
'src/hostapi/alsa/pa_linux_alsa.c', line: 1968
Expression 'PaAlsaStreamComponent_InitialConfigure( &self->capture,
inParams, self->primeBuffers, hwParamsCapture, &realSr )' failed in
'src/h
ostapi/alsa/pa_linux_alsa.c', line: 2643
Expression 'PaAlsaStream_Configure( stream, inputParameters,
outputParameters, sampleRate, framesPerBuffer, &inputLatency,
&outputLatency, &ho
stBufferSizeMode )' failed in 'src/hostapi/alsa/pa_linux_alsa.c', line:
2767

I was able to make this device work by creating ~/.asoundrc with
this entry in it, and then telling wsjtx to use device "p148k":
pcm.p148k {
type plug
slave {
pcm "hw:1,0"
format S16_LE
channels 1
rate 48000
}
}

Note that the entry is specific for audio device "hw:1,0". It creates
a new virtual audio device, based on hw:1,0 but supporting the desired
sample rate. You can see the id number of all audio devices by running
alsamixer and hitting function key F6. Use the hw number for your
particular device.

Version 1.2 of wsjtx will use QtAudio, which does support samplerate
conversion, so the .asoundrc file will not be needed.
</quote>
======================================

so I checked and saw the exact "...SetApproximateSampleRate..." message?
and then I created a .asoundrc file containing:

pcm.p148k {
type plug
slave {
pcm "hw:3,0"
format S16_LE
channels 1
rate 48000
}
}

saved it in my home directory ~/.asoundrc or /home/sam/.asoundrc

told WSJTX to use ALSA p148k for audio in

and now WSJTX is happy and starts with no errors and
I have control of both my TX & RX volumes levels
using the pots on the front of the SignaLink USB

this has also freed up my line in port to the sound card of my mother board
I had been using the Aux out of the SignaLink USB to the line in to get RX
signals to WSJTX.

/me does happy penguin dance <-- not a pretty picture) ;-/

hope that may help you figure 1t out Dan

Hello all

I am trying to set up wsjt-x on a Ubuntu 12.04 machine. Sound card is a
Signalink USB.

Program opens ok, but when I select and save the Signalink as the input
audio, the program crashes. If I select anything else for input, program
is happy.

I can set the Signalink as output card ok.

Any help would be appreciated!

With a lot of help from Greg, KI7MT, I now have The latest and

WSJT 10 per Greg's instructions.<br>
If you can wait a couple of weeks, K1JT has just announced general
availability of the betas on Oct. 1st.<br>
