I am trying to run both Fldigi and MARS-ALE at the same time in a Win7
VM on my Mac. Both of them use my USB sound card.

Am I getting the Port Audio error because I cannot use the sound card
for two different applications?

I am still playing around, but I could have sworn I have used the sound
card simultaneously for two different apps before.

They say the mind is the second thing to go...

Thanks,
Joel - W4JBB

You need more than one sound card.

Are you trying to run both in Windows, or MARS-ALE in Windows and Fldigi in OS X?

Dave,

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I'm trying to run them both in
the VM. However, someone else has already stated that I will need two
sound cards. Unless you know of another way to do it. I don't think
it's possible and my rememberer is definitely faulty. ;)

Thanks,
Joel - W4JBB

I can’t recall whether this has any effect when running a VM, but try the following:

- Right click on the volume control in Windows and select “Playback Devices”
- Select your audio device and then hit the Properties button
- Go to the Advanced tab and look for the section labeled “Exclusive mode”. Remove both check marks.
- Hit “Ok” get back to the Sound window. Select the “Recording” Tab.
- Repeat the steps above for your input device.
- Hit “ok” and “Apply” to get out of everything and close the sound controls.

I can’t guarantee this will work to solve your problem, particularly with a VM, but I’ve seen that “Exclusive mode” interfere with some Windows sound card programs in the past, locking the input to one program only. I understand why it is there, but don’t understand why it is enabled by default.

73 and good luck!

Dave

Dave,

Thanks for the help. I finally got it working by pulling out the E-MU
0204 I have been using and putting the SignaLink USB back in. I'm not
sure why the SL works and the EMU does not. Yep, I tried the "exclusive
mode" check boxes.

Anyway, thanks again.
