A number of you have tried to help this Linux novice over recent weeks. I
did successfully get HamLib, FlDigi and CQrLog all to run and talk to my
FT847 using CAT. My attempts to get GPredict to work well though have
failed even after compiling and installing the most recent version that
addresses the earlier FT847 bugs. It now works, talking to the CAT port on
my radio however the software locks up while trying to track a satellite
pass. I'm thinking as some feared this old Pentium III may just not have
enough horse power!

I then tried Wine, thinking I might run it from within Ubuntu to then run
theSatPC32.exe. I guess I don't know the correct language to fine the path
and call up this exe from my Windows partition. Anyone have any suggestions
in this regard?

Thanks to all, I've learned a lot but may have to face the music and find a
more modern computer.

The wine "c drive" will be under your user profile within the hidden .wine
directory.

Hello Rick,

I'm not a Wine expert (like to drink real wine though..), I don't think
Wine can run Windows applications that were installed into Windows on
other partitions. I understand that you'd need to install a new copy of
the application from Wine itself. Once that's in place, you would run
it with "wine .wine/path-to-the-installed-program". If this
"SatPC32.exe" program is a stand-alone, doesn't need to be installed
type program, just place it in a new directory under
.wine/drive_c/Program Files

I've run GPredict for years under Ubuntu and now Debian, straight from the repos, without compiling. The only issue I had (rather recently) was what appeared to be a corrupted TLE entry for 1+ satellites in my tracking list. The symptom was a satellite going at near light-speed around the earth, an insane velocity. It usually froze up GPredict before I could do anything.

I uninstalled/reinstalled to no avail. Then I realized that I needed to delete my $HOME/.config/Gpredict/ directory. But first, I copied my home.qth file elsewhere, since I'm too lazy to re-enter my GPS coordinates, city, etc. I deleted the gpredict settings directory, copied my qth file back into place, re-loaded the TLE's and set my home qth as the default location, and a couple other personal preferences. This solved the one problem I had with it.

I run world of warcraft under wine by copying the entire folder into the /home/Robert/.wine/c:drive/programs
Then make short cut to .exe file and move it to the desktop.
