Fldigi Rig Control on Mac OS X

I am using an RT Systems USB-63 cable to control my FT-950 using Ham Radio Deluxe in a Parallels VM on Windows 7 (So I know the Cable is good).

If i try to set up fldigi rig control in the OS X version of fldigi (3.21.37) I do not see the USB-63 cable as a choice of serial ports. It appears that OS X does not create a /dev/tty.... device.

My signaling USB communicates with fldigi just fine.

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thanks.

1st quick question would be: Did you install any OS X drivers that may be
required?

I do not know anything about a USB-63 cable, HRD or Windows 7. Why are you trying to run PC software on a Mac under VM when fldigi is native to OS X.
From your description you may need a driver. Get one here
http://www.silabs.com/products/mcu/pages/usbtouartbridgevcpdrivers.aspx

I use the Mac OS X version and it works great. I have no idea what you need for Windows 7 running under VM on a Mac.

Thanks Dick,

I am not running Fldigi on windows. I just included that bit of information to prove that the cable is good.

I have the SI Labs drivers installed (They are working with my weather station).

RT-System's cables seem to use FTDI chipsets but they reprogram the
Vendor and Product IDs so even Linux don't automatically detect them as
a serial device. I don't know if OSX supports something like this but
this is what I do for Linux

/etc/modprobe.d/usbserial.conf
--
#RT Systems CT-62B 1-port USB to serial adapter for FT817/857/897
(FTDI-based)
options ftdi_sio vendor=0x2100 product=0x9e56
--

There are other Udev tricks to make everything happen automatically but
this thread isn't about Linux. ;-)

If you look thru the /dev/ list you should see the adapter as some other name like "cu.serial.cuda.1" or something odd like that. My keyspan adapter is labeled "/dev/cu.KeyUSA19181.1".

Hope that helps.

RT Systems sent me the driver and it worked.
Why they don't just post it on their web site for downloading remains a mystery...

Now download the program flrig and use it with fldigi. flrig provides a
very robust CAT interface to the FT-950. The program author owns an
FT-950 and at least two other developers are actively improving the
flrig->ft950 interface.
