Hi all,I can't output any audio from fldigi (3.21.83) to my ts590 via the usb sound card.
It was working perfectly on my old ubuntu 10.04. Then I switched to 13.04 and the problem has arrived.
I tried many configurations, asked questions on forums but I gave up since I am not a regular digital mode user.
Last week I upgraded to xubuntu 14.04, hoping my problem would be solved with new software. But It remains.

The ts590 configuration (which is not so easy to set up) seems not to be the cause because It works if I switch back to 10.04.

I can output audio to my ts590 with vlc software playing a wav file. But nothing with fldigi just a very very faint sound audible via the tx monitor at maximum setting. Not enough to transmit a single watt of RF.
In fldigi I use portaudio device. In pavu control the volume looks normal but nothing in the ts590.

Some strange behaviours :
- if I close fldigi while in tx mode, I have normal audio output for about 1 second.
- if I start playing a wav file with vlc in the ts590 usb sound card, fldigi work! Both audios are mixed. I can then stop vlc playing and fldigi's modulation is outputted normally until the end of the transmission. But after going back to receive, fldigi won't output any audio. Not easy to make a qso in that way :-).

Does anyone have the same problem ?
Any help would be welcome.

Hello Philippe,

I don't have a TS590 but a few things stick in my mind:

- You mentioned you use PortAudio but have you tried PulseAudio? When
configuring Fldigi with PulseAudio, *first* run "the pavucontrol" and
then run Fldigi. In Fldigi, configure it's sound to use Pulse Audio and
to use the "Default" device. I would then recommend to restart Fldigi
and switching to pavucontrol, goto the "record" tab and make sure Fldigi
is routed to the TS590's built-in soundcard. You should see the level
bar moving around and signal in Fldigi's waterfall. Next, QSY the radio
to a free part of spectrum, lower your power, tune your antenna, and
then start transmitting via Fldigi (control t). Again back in
pavucontrol's "play" tab, make sure you see Fldigi show up and it's
output is routed to the TS590's sound card.

- In addition to the audio routing in pavucontrol, also make sure the
PulseAudio levels aren't muted and the levels are decently set (say 80%
for now but will need to be properly set to get full power while
avoiding ALC/Splatter)

- Load up your preferred soundcard mixer program and make sure the
TS590's built-in soundcard levels are properly set (say 80% for now but
will need to be properly set to get full power while avoiding ALC/Splatter)

- Check the built in sound card levels in the TS590's internal menus
both in terms of RX and TX levels. I had to set my FT-950's audio
output to be about 80/100.

- If you prefer to use PortAudio yet your system is running
PulseAudio, try setting the Fldigi's "PortAudio" Capture and Playback
devices to "pulse" (that's what I have to do) and again follow the
above steps

Finally, how does the TS590 key the transmitter? Is it a VOX like setup
where it's automatic, is it done via a CAT command, or is it done via a
separate serial port? Make sure Fldigi can key the radio or what you
might be observing and hearing could be misleading.

Good luck!

Hello David,Thank you very much indeed : It works !!!!!!
I have tried with both pulse and portaudio setting. I think I have tried all possible audio settings .....
Reading you last comments on radio keying, I first thought : "that's not my problem, radio is keyed since I can see the red transmitting led". Then I hit the send button while fldigi was playing and bingo ! Full transmitter output ! I was using "TS590 data VOX" and also "PTT via hamlib". Perhaps the hamlib command was confused because the TS590 was already is TX mode by the VOX when it was issued.
Now I can key the radio either with the data VOX or with the ham lib command but I have learn the hard way that I can't activate both at the same time.
Again thank you, I would never have thought to that by myself. I was stuck on an audio problem and I spent hours trying to fix it.
Now I can give a try to digital modes. I am primarily a CW operator.
CA is a bit far away for my modest station, but I hope to ear (and see) you on the air.

Be sure you have fldigi set to revers the channels.

Config/Audio/Right channel X Reverse Left/Right channels
