I have added a socket interface capability to flrig. It allow flrig to
be connected to a remote serial/socket server on a LAN or over a WAN.
The serial->socket server may be a h/w device or socat running on a
remote computer, http://freecode.com/projects/socat. I have tested the
design on my LAN with the socat server running on a Linux Mint-13
system. socat provides the interface to my FT-950. The client flrig can
be co-located on the same machine, or reside on another machine. It
works fine on my test platforms, XP, Win-8.1, Linux and OS X.

Skip Teller, KH6TY, has been testing the socket client on Win7 <==>
remote h/w serial/socket server with an internet connection.

The current implementation is very robust when the client is on a Linux
or OS X platform. It is fragile on Windows ... reconnects are not
possible. If the WAN goes down it is necessary to kill and restart
flrig. I am stuck and sure could use some help to discover how to fix
the problem.

Write back if you are interested. The easiest way for me to get code to
you is via the Source Forge code repository for flrig, but I can post
tarballs on the w1hkj.com web site.

Thanks,

Dave, Just what the doctor ordered and something I would be very interested in helping test. I have a MacPro, MacBook Air, iMac, all running the current OS-X, a windows 7 (32-bit), Netbook XP-Pro, and my iPad Mini Retina. My son who is local here in town could also help test (when not over taken by school work at FIT EE) He also has a wide assortment of platforms from which to choose.
So if you think we can help - would be glad to volunteer. I used to be a software engineer and have dabbled in Mac OS-X, was better in OS-9 days but that was sometime ago now.

Thanks again for your most excellent applications and your vision especially for ALL users not just the Windows group.

Bruce Jarrell
